2011 Connecticut Jobs Bill

Department of Economic and Community Development Commissioner Catherine Smith has been touring the state holding forums on a new $180 Million Jobs Bill with incentives that was created by a special legislative session in late October of this year. On November 30th Ms. Smith came to speak at a Guilford Economic Development breakfast forum well attended by local businesses, property owners, local and state government officials, and real estate brokers.

Opportunities are now available to small businesses to get tax incentives for creating new jobs and to receive subsidies for the training that may be required for newly hired employees. The state is offering qualified businesses $500 per month for each new job hire, and $900 per month if a new hire is formerly unemployed, disabled, or a veteran. Additionally, there are incentives for manufacturing companies to reinvest in their businesses.

For more detailed information on these incentives, go to www.decd.org and complete a very simple "needs assessment" form. The telephone number for this department is 860-270-8215.
